New York, NY (April 16, 2015) – Celebrated Los Angeles retail brand Fred Segal® today announced the debut of its first international lifestyle center in Tokyo, Japan, which will open its doors on April 17, 2015. Marking the retailer’s first location outside the U.S., this unique shopping destination will export the Southern California spirit of the Fred Segal brand to the Japanese consumer. Located in the upscale, emerging Daikanyama neighborhood, Fred Segal will occupy three of five buildings at LOG ROAD DAIKANYAMA, a new pedestrian shopping development built on a converted railway site.
The launch kicks off with a VIP store-opening event this evening in Japan, followed by the grand opening to consumers tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. (Tokyo time).
Fred Segal DAIKANYAMA will offer the iconic L.A. retailer’s unique point of view, bringing together a curated mix of luxury products across men’s, women’s, accessories, home and lifestyle categories both from independent makers as well as Fred Segal’s own branded merchandise. The collection of stores will continuously evolve as new trends and concepts emerge, presenting an ever-changing platform for both local and international emerging designers, specially merchandised to engage Japanese trendsetters.

The first Fred Segal DAIKANYAMA building will be The MART at Fred Segal, a welcoming eatery and gathering place, inspired by West Coast food culture. The MART will feature a food market with light casual fare and culinary products from all over the world, including Fred Segal-branded gourmet coffee, created in partnership with local roasters, and Camden’s Blue Star Donuts, Portland, Oregon’s hugely popular donut shop. In addition, consumers will be able to shop from a curated selection of home products and goods. Parked outside the MART will be a vintage red food truck, which will sell a rotating selection of seasonal delicacies.
The brand’s second building will house Fred Segal WOMAN, offering a selection of merchandise from apparel to accessories—from brands such as 3.1 Phillip Lim, Frame Denim, Isabel Marant Étoile, Lanvin, Maison Kitsuné and Marni—as well as beauty products.
Fred Segal MAN, featuring a mix of men’s apparel, accessories and lifestyle products ranging from casual to high fashion, will occupy Fred Segal’s third building at LOG ROAD. Brands in the men’s store will include Adidas, Haider Ackermann, BLK DNM, Porter, Trickers, Valentino and many more.
Fred Segal DAIKANYAMA will also feature exclusive collaborations across categories with brands such as Delphine Delafon (handbags), Instant Impossible Lab (cameras), Joshua Sanders (shoes), Moleskine (notebooks), Oliver Peoples (glasses) and TOMS (shoes).
New York-based, multi-disciplinary design firm Aesthetic Movement (A/M) designed the interiors for Fred Segal DAIKANYAMA. Led by Creative Director Jesse James, A/M set out to create an environment that offers multiple moments and experiences for visitors. Each of the three Fred Segal buildings is treated as a distinct project, eschewing an overarching design concept, in order to promote a stimulating and engaging visit as shoppers make their way along the walking path.
Flanking the Fred Segal buildings (as the first and last in the complex) and integral to the overall experience at LOG ROAD DAIKANYAMA will be an outpost of famous San Francisco artisanal bakery TARTINE BAKERY & CAFE, to open later this spring, and SPRING VALLEY BREWERY TOKYO, a new craft brew concept from Japanese beer giant KIRIN. Both will complement the culinary offerings at The MART and serve as great places for shoppers to further enjoy the sights and flavors of this unique retail complex.
Fred Segal’s Tokyo debut will be followed by several additional retail locations in other key Japanese cities, including Yokohama, where the next lifestyle center will open in 2016.
