NEW YORK, December 5, 2012 — Fred Segal®, the iconic, style-centric retailer acquired by SANDOW® (sandow.com) in January 2012, will be an anchor retailer in the new world-class Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT) at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), today announced Adam I. Sandow, chairman and CEO, SANDOW, a leader in building multiplatform brands that meet at the intersection of luxury and design. SANDOW subsidiary Culture + Commerce™, a global design consultancy that develops opportunities between major brands and international designers, manages all licensing deals for Fred Segal globally.
SANDOW is working with premier travel retailer Hudson Group, who is leading HG-Magic-Concourse TBIT JV, a joint venture with several prominent local Los Angeles business partners, to launch Fred Segal as a major retailer in the new terminal at LAX, one of the world’s most highly-trafficked airports. Fred Segal will have 2,200 square feet of retail space in the terminal (the largest retail footprint outside of duty-free), which is slated to open in spring 2013. Millions of travelers–whether arriving or departing–will get to experience Fred Segal’s unique brand of California style. The store will feature such merchandise as women’s and men’s apparel–including a denim bar, swimsuits, jewelry, beauty, books, art, accessories and Fred Segal-branded items.
“It makes great sense to have an iconic LA brand like Fred Segal at LAX, where over 60 million travelers fly in and out and will recognize—or be introduced to—the Fred Segal experience. Our goal is to strategically grow the brand’s footprint and introduce the Fred Segal name and its style quotient to a larger global audience, so our presence in the new international terminal really positions us at the crossroads of the world,” said Sandow.
Michele Caniato, president of Culture + Commerce, said, “This new terminal is an exciting development for LA and we’re thrilled that Fred Segal, a legendary Los Angeles trendsetter, can be a part of it and offer up a unique retail environment for shoppers entering or leaving the airport.”
Fred Segal continues its global expansion through several partnerships in the US and abroad. Most recently, the company announced that Fred Segal will roll out retail stores and e-commerce in Japan next fall, in partnership with MARK STYLER.
